Not The Brightest Star in the Sky

Author's Note: Lets not even discuss that title, i know it sucks... but i was at a loss! LOL

I shouldn't have let him do it. I knew better, I just didn't do better. My own reaction was enough of a clue, I guess I just decided to ignore it. Of course, I shouldn't blame myself, I mean, he of all people should have known better than to go to her with that kind of news. And to go to her house of all places, well, I never said Chakotay was the brightest star in the sky. Any one with even half a brain would have either 1. Not told her at all, or 2. Told her in a public place. But this is Chakotay we're talking about, and it really is his own damned fault. What is it with him and blonde, big chest bimbos anyway?

After he left here yesterday I was all set to be royally pissed at him for a good long while. Then I got the call from Harry. Chakotay was at Starfleet Medical. Naturally I started thinking the worst, that oh my God she tried to kill him. Then Harry called back, "Don't worry," he said, "the injuries are all superficial, but he'll be walking a little funny for a couple of days."

After that Tom got home and I got a few more details. He, Chakotay that is, did go to see her, and he told her. They won't tell me what exactly her reaction was, but apparently she's the one that called Tom and Harry and asked them to make sure he made it to medical. No one has heard from Chakotay since Tom and Harry dropped him back at his place, and I tried to contact her, but there has been no response. It's not that I'm worried, because I'm not, I just want the details! And who better to get them from than the source. That's why I'm standing outside her door at 0900 hours waiting for her to answer her chime.

"B'Elanna!" The door has opened and she's standing there grinning at me. "How is Miral?"

"Growing by leaps and bounds, you won't even recognize her next time you see her." We step into her living room and sit, "I think you know why I'm here."

She blushes a little, "I suppose Tom told you."

"No, not everything." I sigh, "What did you do to him?"

A smile spreads across her face, "I thought about killing him, but then I realized that would be too counter productive. So I kicked him in the nads and through him out of my house. Then I got tired of him writhing around on my lawn so I called Tom and Harry."

I can't help but frown, she looks entirely too calm about all this, "That's it?"

"That's it."

"The man tells you he's dating your protégé and you kick him in the nads?"

She shrugs, "Well if he'd told me he was marrying then I would have killed him, or worse."

"Worse?" What could be worse than death?

"I could have castrated him."

Yep, I'd say that about does it. "True." I was expecting this, but I can't help feeling there's more to it. And the way her eyes are twinkling--oh well maybe some things are best left unsaid. "Well, I should be heading back, I left Tom alone with the baby."

We laugh and she stands to walk me to the door. "Don't worry B'Elanna everything will work out. It always does, eventually."

"I suppose you're right."

We walk toward the door, but I stop at the sound of someone coming down the stairs.

"Kathryn, I can't find the--" Chakotay stops when he sees me, and they both blush.

"Good-bye B'Elanna," She gently nudges my stunned self out the door and closes it between us. I stand there dazed for several moments, then a grin spreads across my face. "So much for Seven," I mutter. And as I leave I start to chuckle, and think, perhaps I should have a little chat with that husband of mine...
